Valentina Vasi

Bio

Born: Milano, Italy January 24th, 1980
Profession: architect, visual artist, film-maker and theatre performer

I was born in Italy, studied in Switzerland, lived in both Italy (Milan) and Spain (Madrid).

I think that my love for any kind of visual expression started with my parents. We used to play a lot together. I still remember when I was a little child and my parents and me used to go to enjoy puppets shows in a very small theater in Milan every single weekend…since then I think I started to know that what I wanted to do in my life was to tell stories, using any kind of possible media. At the beginning I thought that writing was the best way to do it, but then I start to feel that it wasn’t enough, and year after year I also realized that I was able to see very clearly in my mind every amazing family tale my mother was telling me or every fantastic tale my father was writing himself.

As an only child, although my parents were very young and sociable people, I spent also a conspicuous amount of time by myself, and that’s probably also a reason why I needed to find some way to communicate.

I’m not so good in talking about myself or about the way I see things, that’s probably the reason why I prefer to express it in images, both static or animated, spaces, third persons.

Every picture or painting or performance is a world itself. Very similar to this one, just a little bit different.
Very brief statement for the pictures:

I think that in my pictures converge both theatre and architecture that I’ve been studying. I’m interested in any different kind of body expression, but at the same time I’m really fascinated by the pure geometry and the Russian Avantgarde techniques. I try to combine those two different languages in an only picture: bodies and shapes interact, and redraw each other. The colors are the result of their intersecting, overlapping, and cutting each other, the result of their playing each other.
