A few thoughts on design

Last updated on Apr 26th, 2008 • Categorized in: Phauxshow Design

Web design is truly an art in and of itself. In this category, we will document many of the steps we took to get us here.

The Gallery

You might not think it, but the Phauxshow Gallery was quite difficult to build.

First of all, we used Zenphoto to handle the basic functionality. We wanted a theme that allowed us maximum control over the design, so we stripped down the ZP Default theme, changed the CSS to suit us, and added some further functionality.

We then used Steffan Ruzee’s tutorial on integrating ZP into WP. This gave us the ability to use our Phauxshow header in the Gallery.

Finally, we spent a long time looking at websites that had galleries. There are a lot out there. A few are good, but we especially like what Bert Simmons is doing on his site. So, we emailed him with a few questions about his technique of having small thumbnails beside a larger main image. Here is what it looks like on Phauxshow. He was kind enough to provide us with some code which we styled to suit us, and away we went!
