Noah Ptolemy
My name is Noah Ptolemy and I am a painter. I’m 28yrs old and have been painting full-time for four yrs. I was born in Victoria, BC, then moved to Japan when I was five. Lived in Japan for 8yrs and then Hawaii for another 8yrs. Started traveling at 19 in search of self expression. Tried everything from singing to writing, acting, etc. It was when I arrived in Detroit in ‘04 that painting and drawing presented themselves to me.
I am self-taught which fits me perfect for I need hands on/ real life situations to inspire me. For the past two and a half years I’ve been living in Missoula, Mt where I had around 24 shows during my stay. It was a good place to build my body of work and not be immediately sucked into the rush of the city. Now, however, I am living in San Francisco and selling my work on the streets.
I like to keep in mind that change is very important- scary but nescessary. My work is a combination of my experience/inspiration that comes out abstract, often in the form of a character of some sort. As I read more about the artist’s that excite me, I take what I like, put it in my being, and let it happen however it may on my canvases.
