				<description>&#60;p&#62;Thanks for the email with your code!  I was able to use your code as a reference for my index.php file.  I still have to do some styling and then do the same for the album and image files.  I will probably have more questions.  &#60;/p&#62;
&#60;p&#62;I also wanted to know how you were able to display the thumbnail pictures on the right side of the image in your gallery.&#60;/p&#62;
&#60;p&#62;thanks a bunch!

				<description>&#60;p&#62;Hi. I'm an artist in Brooklyn embarking on a project involving the national media and the internet. I'm auctioning a giant map of America made from junk, one state at a time. Amidst a tough economy I'm trying to sell out bigtime. <title>ZWJ on "The Responsibility of the Artist"</title>
				<link>http://phauxshow.com/forum/topic/the-responsibility-of-the-artist#post-5</link>

				<description>&#60;p&#62;The question that I would like to present to our Phauxshow guests today is the following: What are the responsibilities of the artist? &#60;/p&#62;
&#60;p&#62;Is art something that should remain hidden in galleries?  And should artists make art simply for the sake of other artists, or to indulge their own creative desires?  Are there any obligations that artists have to the world and humanity?&#60;/p&#62;
&#60;p&#62;Consider two views:&#60;/p&#62;
&#60;p&#62;(1)  Art is unique in that it is not created for the sake of any end or purpose.  Indeed, this is what makes art intrinsically valuable.  If it were created for an end, its value would in some way be diminished.  Art is the expression of human freedom.  Through the creative process, an artist is able to remove herself from the world of utilitarian considerations, and produce something that has no purpose.  The artist has no social obligations.  She has obligations only to herself as the artist.  If she chooses to create political, social, or moral art, she may.  But she is certainly not bound to do so.  It is important that artists create in an open and free psychological space.  Any external constraints—in the form of political, social, or moral obligations—would surely taint the creative process.&#60;/p&#62;
&#60;p&#62;(2)   Artists do have political, social, and moral obligations to the world.  The role of the artist in society is not to create work that will forever remain within the walls of a gallery for an elite crowd to enjoy.  Rather, the artist must challenge society and promote the social good.  Artists are in a privileged position to touch others with their work.  When they fail to do this, they fail as artists.  The most successful and important artists will always be those who create art that is motivated by political, social, and moral concerns.&#60;/p&#62;
&#60;p&#62;Which view do you find most compelling?

				<title>ZWJ on "Artistic Dialogue"</title>

				<description>&#60;p&#62;Most artists are drawn to a particular medium because of its ability to express certain thoughts, ideas, or emotions. For instance, a painter may choose to paint because of the expressive possibilities associated with the medium. She may express herself through paint, and not through the written word, because of the unique expressive capacities associated with the former. But if this is true, then what is the purpose of a dialogue or discussion about a particular work of art?&#60;/p&#62;
&#60;p&#62;If a person wanted to express herself verbally, then she would. But if she wants to express herself visually, why shouldn’t her work end here? Why should she have to discuss her art—its meaning, message, or significance? We can say something similar about those who view art: When a person walks into a gallery, or pages through an art book, why should he attempt to say something about the art? Why shouldn’t he simply look at the art? Isn’t this—the looking— the whole point? And do we not limit or alter a piece when we try to express its meaning or significance in words?&#60;/p&#62;
&#60;p&#62;A related worry that we might have about art concerns our tendency to confabulate or develop ‘stories’ about what we do or create. When an artist reveals the ‘meaning’ of her art, can we trust her? Is she being sincere? Or is she mistaken or self-deceived about her work and its significance? How can an artist ever be sure that the thoughts that occurred to her during the creative process caused or motivated the process and the product? Perhaps the thoughts and feelings that she experienced at the time merely accompanied the process and were causally inert.&#60;/p&#62;
&#60;p&#62;Is this skepticism about artistic dialogue in order? Why or why not? If it so, might we still want to say something in support of discussions about particular works of art? What is their function? Please share your thoughts with us below.

				<description>&#60;p&#62;The forum is basically ready (in a secure, bug free sense). We still need to change a few thing aesthetically and such but in the mean time please feel free to post any thing you like!&#60;/p&#62;
&#60;p&#62;I'll also try to create some guide posts to get things started. My goal is to have it fully operational in the new year and then send out a mass invitation and newsletter.&#60;/p&#62;
&#60;p&#62;I'd love your feedback!
